The new job

Just finished my 2nd day of my new job as admin and support in Barnsley.

How’s it going? well it’s mixed feelings really. I’m working with 2 other lads – Alex and Paul who are both nice lads. Quite funny too and had me chuckling to myself all day with their conversations. Both of them are really young being in their early twenties so I feel a bit of an old fart but I don’t think it’s a problem, interesting to have an insight into their young minds as well. Despite their youth they’re both really bright and seem to know their stuff.

The boss  is the most chilled out boss I’ve ever worked for and comes across as really nice, approachable, and amiable, often popping in to our office for a casual chat and he really knows his stuff too.

At the start I said I had mixed feelings so what’s the problem? well there isn’t a problem as such, it’s just that all the previous places I’ve worked for have had a strict structure:

START WORK AT 9:00am
FINISH AT 5:00pm
15 MINUTE BREAK AT 10:00am
30 MINUTES FOR DINNER
NO DRINKS AT THE DESK
NO MUSIC
NO INTERNET
ETC! ETC!

I feel a bit like the Brooks character from The Shawshank Redemption, he’s the old guy who is released from prison after 30 or so years and finds that he has become so institutionalised that he can’t adjust to the outside world.

Ok, so maybe I’m exaggerating  but it does feel strange working in a more relaxed office – not that I’m complaining 🙂

As for the work side of things, I think – I hope I’m doing ok and giving good support advice, sometimes I feel a little out of my depth with some of the queries but I’ll endeavour to do my best to learn what I’m unsure of.

What I’ve found really fascinating is watching all the sales notification emails coming in for the various different products – it really does prove that there is some money to be made in internet marketing.

So far so good 🙂
